Cigarette Racing Team, Llc
Murder, drugs, and fast boats -- what more could you want in a sea tale? For Cigarette Racing Team less of the first two, and more sales of the latter. Founded in the 1960s by Don Aronow, who was gunned down in 1987, allegedly at the behest of a rival boatyard owner, Cigarette Racing Team has seen "cigarette" become a generic description for powerful, narrow-bodied speedboats (often linked to drug-running). Notable owners have included President George H.W. Bush, singer Enrique Iglesias, and baseball star Ivan Rodriguez. A bona fide Cigarette can cost more than $1 million and reach speeds of 120 mph. The custom boats are powered by engines from Brunswick's Mercury Marine Group.
